Do you like skiing or snowboarding? The best time to visit Japan is from January to February. Japan is known as “Japow” which means “Japan” and “Powder” as some of the areas with a great quality of powder snow. We are going to share the top three of the popular ski resort areas where you can see powder snow.

1. Hokkaido

Hokkaido is known for a great quality powder snow as most ski resorts are located in an area of heavy snowfall. There are many ski resorts and skiers love the quality of snow. The popular ski resorts are Niseko, Rusutsu, Kiroro, Furano and more. You can enjoy visiting Hokkaido other than skiing such as eating seasonal foods, Matsuri (snow events), and beautiful snowscapes. One of the Natural World Heritage, Shiretoko is also recommended.

2. Nagano

Nagano is known for having the greatest ski resorts in Japan. There are over 80 ski resorts and many places where you can enjoy skiing for a long period. Nagano also has great quality snow piled up since there is an area of heavy snowfall. That’s why the snow powder is beautiful.

Nagano is not far from Tokyo and accessible by Shinkansen (Bullet trains).

There are famous ski resorts such as Hakuba and Shiga Kogen and Onsen resorts are famous as well. You can enjoy both skiing and Onsen at the same trip.

3. Niigata

Niigata is as famous as Hokkaido and Nagano. Great quality of snow as there is an area of heavy snowfall.

Niigata's famous ski resorts are Yuzawa and Naeba. Yuzawa is very accessible from Tokyo by Shinkansen. That's one of the reasons it's so popular.

There are many ski resorts in Japan other than these prefectures and each ski resort has their own unique charm.

If you would like to be interested in skiing or snowboarding, you should visit and hope you make wonderful memories!
