[Niigata] Kiyotsu Gorge

Kiyotsu Gorge is one of the largest three gorges in Japan. The rich four seasons of scenery are very attractive.

Located in Niigata Prefecture which is part of the Chubu Region known as Hokuriku.

Kiyotsu Gorge is famous for the tunnel of light, which combines arts and nature inside the tunnel, to see the beautiful scenery of the gorge from the end of the tunnel. The mirror-like water surface at the end of the tunnel is covered in shallow water (0.5 to 2 cm).

The length is 750 meters and takes about 30 to 40 minutes for a round trip by walk.

Enjoy the collaboration of the scenery by transitioning of the seasons and arts.

Spring: The season of fresh green has come from the end of April. There is a large flow of water in the Kiyotsu river by the melted snow water.

Summer: The cool breeze goes through the tunnel. The best time to take pictures is before midday. You can enjoy seeing the mountains without any shade.

Autumn: Expected starting leaves change color from mid-October. Contrast of rock surface and autumn foliage is breathtaking. Be sure to dress warmly, the weather gets cold fast.

Winter: From mid-December it starts snowing and it is going to be a snow-covered world. Snow piles up over 2 meters and there is still snow until April.

Which seasons would you like to go to?

You should go each season to see and feel nature flow.
