Akeno Sunflower Festival is held at Hokuto city, Yamanashi Prefecture which is in the Chubu Region. This year starts from July 20th to August 25th. Akeno town, Hokuto city has longer days than any other places in Japan.
The local people plant sunflower seeds every year and it will bloom 4 hundred thousand, and they make the visitors enjoy seeing 360 degree panoramic views.
The sunflower field is very huge, so you can enjoy going for a walk. There are also shops or stores that sell local specialties, photo contests, events and more. It is a good location as you can see the southern Japan Alps, Mt. Fuji, and southern Yatsugatake Volcanic Group behind the sunflower field.
There are shops where you can enjoy food and souvenirs. One of the famous signature foods is sunflower ice cream topped with sunflower seeds. If you are curious about the taste itself, you should visit and try it! Other than that, there are more local specialties and should be more fun!
