Hanami, which literally means “flower viewing,” is the one of the best things you can enjoy when you travel to Japan during April.

In Japan, it is a traditional event where you appreciate the temporal beauty of nature; cherry blossoms.

People gather under the cherry blossoms and have a potluck party.

Here are some popular places to go for Hanami!

  1. Megurogawa in Tokyo
    • Known for “Sakura River”
    • About 800 cherry blossom trees lined for about 4km along the river which displays a glorious view.
    • The lantern lights up at night, and you cannot imagine how beautiful it will be.
    • There will be a small cherry blossom festival nearby selling some food and drinks
    • You can eat and drink while walking through the amazing cherry blossom tunnel.
  2. Osaka Castle Park in Osaka
    • About 3000 cherry blossom trees with variety of different types of cherry blossom
    • Once night falls, Osaka Castle is illuminated which gives a dazzling view.
  3. Ueno Park in Tokyo
    • Huge Park where many people can gather and have a nice party.
    • Family-friendly
    • The Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the biggest and most crowded in all of Japan.

The cherry blossom season is usually from the end of March to April, but it depends on the location.

*Unfortunately we do not have the actual cherry blossom pictures from these places. You should visit and watch with your own eyes!*
