[Hiroshima] Itsukushima Shrine
Sep 6,2024 by My JR Pass Comments 0

Itsukushima Shrine is located in Miyajima, Hiroshima prefecture which is in the Chugoku Region. Itsukushima Shrine is one of the famous shrines in Japan since it is the only shrine in the ebb and flow place in Japan. It looks like the torii gate is floating during high tide because it was built in the Seto Inland Sea.

Itsukushima Shrine was built in 593 by Kuramoto Saeki but Taira no Kiyomori rebuilt the current shrine in 1168. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

The best time to visit is spring and autumn since it is more sacred around the shrine by the cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. They are also the best time to take pictures with that beautiful nature behind.
