[Niigata] Sado Island
Sep 1,2023 by My JR Pass Comments 0

Sado Island, Sadogashima, is located in Niigata Prefecture which is in Hokuriku (Chubu) Region.

Sado Island is surrounded by the ocean and there are mountains, so cycling, camping and marine sports are popular. Also, there are many attractions that are unique and rarely experienced such as a “Tarai Bune” which is tub boats. If you are familiar with the Ghibli “Spirited Away”, you may have seen it.

Besides you can meet crested ibis (toki), which is an endangered species, at Toki Forest Park or if you are lucky you can see them in the wild on Sado Island.

There is no train in Sado Island so it might take more time to get around than you expected, but on the other hand you can pass the time leisurely. Sado Island is gifted with nature and four seasons. If you visit there, you can enjoy a lot of food from the ocean and mountains, history, events, and more.

We highly recommend you visit there!
